Jan Šimara has victoriously finished his season of life so far. He gained the first place in the traditionaly last tournament of the year in Karlovy Vary. However, it must be said, that it was after an equal and dramatic fight.
Jan Šimara lost right in the first round with Petr Cipra. Much surprising was a loss of Radek Nechanický with Jakub Mírka. And when Radek Nechanický lost also in the second round with Jan Šimara, it was clear, that the strongest group could be won by anybody. The fact, that Jan Šimara then did not lose, finaly decided the winner. Three players with three points had to share the second place – Radek Nechanický, Jan Prokop and Jakub Mírka.
This was the third victory of Jan Šimara in a Grand Prix tournament this year, two of them were qualifications for the Championship of the Republic. Although he has just 4 dan, he has placed himself next to the strongest Czech players. More successful was Radek Nechanický, who won four home tournaments. Jan Hora won in the Championship of the Republic, in the qualifications for the Ing’s memorial and one Grand Prix tournament. Ondřej Šilt dominated in the Czech Masters and two Grand Prix tournaments.
Because the players did not play in one group, but were divided into groups of six people, it is upon the place to mention names of other winners: Aleš Cieplý, Martin Válek, Kristýna Stodolová, Jaroslav Douša, Michal Piegl and in the weakest group the victory was shared by a coming back legend of the Czech go Petr Mazal, Ivana Hlaváčová and Blanka Hubená.
