Jan Hora from Prague became the Master of the republic for the year 2007. In the last and also the crucial game of the Czech Championship, which took place from Tuesday 30th October to Sunday 4th November in Frýdek-Místek, he defeated Radek Nechanický from Nymburk, who became the second. The third was Vladimír Daněk from Prague.
For Jan Hora it is the final of a very successful year. During it he gained 6 dan, won the appreciated qualification for the Ing Memorial and now he added the biggest success – his very first title of the absolute Master of the republic, which is also connected with the presence at the World Championship the next year in Japan.
It is not possible not to mention, that the decisive game really was a decoration of the Championship. Jan Hora with white stones answered the first move of Radek Nechanický at the star right with an attack at 6-6 point and he played his second move to the 5-5 in the opposite corner. A few next moves were played in a similar way. It is good, that Jan Hora even in such an important game is not afraid to confirm his reputation of a player, who does not love smooth standard opening. The record of the game can be found on eGoban. It is really worth seeing.
The order at the other places ended according to expectations: the fourth was Vít Brunner, who except two halfpoint losses sparkled also with defeating Radek Nechanický in the last but one round. Although his beginning was not very successful the fifth was Jan Šimara. Probably the biggest surprise of the Championship was the seventh place of only twelve years old Lukáš Podpěra. It was his first Championship and he won three games. There is no analogy to that in the history of the Czech go.
Tomáš Grosser with one loss won in the secondary tournament. The second was Aleš Rak, the third was Jaroslav Jiruše.
To the conclusion, it is necessary to thank the organizers, namely Ivoš Pavlík, for a good organization of the tournament, place etc. Records of all games and other information can be found on eGoban.
