Ondřej Šilt dominated in Deskohraní in Prague

Ondřej Šilt Ondřej Šilt (in the picture) became the winner of the autumn tournament in Prague, that took place on 29th and 30th September 2007 as a part of the 7th year of the international festival of games – Deskohraní (Boardplaying). In one of the last checkups before the home championship the acting master of the republic did not loose a single game and showed, that he is in a good state a month before the peak of the czech tournament season.

The second Jan Šimara can share a similar optimism. He won four games out of five. Surprisingly he even defeated Radek Nechanický in the second round. However, the word surprisingly is not upon the place. Jan Šimara has recently had very good results. Four wins had also Vít Brunner, but he did not play with both present 6 dan players. Radek Nechanický had to acguiesce to the fourth place, who except with Jan Šimara lost also in the last round with Ondřej Šilt. The fifth was Jan Prokop. Except the winners also Lenka Květová and Machima Ungsriwong had five points.

Besides the main tournament also blitz tournament took place on Saturday evening. Simon Zeckarias won without any losses, followed by Marie Šimková and Antonín Pavelka. A part of Deskohraní will be also a 13x13 tournament on Tuesday and a 9x9 tournament on Thursday. More information can be found here.

To the conclusion two impressions. Firstly, the tournament had awesome funding. There are not a lot Grand Prix tournaments in the Czech republic, where the first prize is 9,000 CZK. Secondly, unfortunately the playing place did not correspond to that. The organizers of Deskohraní scraped go to a sunken dusty gym somewhere at the end of the labyrinth of the Tyršův dům, where the event took place, so even the players themselves had difficulties finding the place. On the contrary a one day tournament in criss cross was so „respected“ by the organizers, that they put it into a prestigious aula.
