The Czech representative Martin Jurek became the student vice-master of Europe on the European Student Go Championship that took place from Monday to Wednesday in Stockholm. He was defeated only in the fourth round by the winner Benjamin Papazoglou from France. In the end of the tournament the difference between them was only one SOS, because Papazoglou lost in the last round with Merlinj Kuin from the Netherlands who ended the third.
This Martin’s success means above all that he is qualified for the tournament World Student Go Oza 2008. Only two best students and the best girl advance to this tournament. He also continued the Czech students’ successes from the last years. The last year Vít Brunner was the third in Brno, the year before Jan Hora won in Helsinki. In the short three years history the Czech republic is so far the most successful country from all.
However, our other representative Klára Žaloudková was not very successful. Among six rounds she managed to win only twice. Although relative to the fact that girls played in the same group as boys she also won the second place. The first was Manuela März from Germany.
